"Velma's Diner in Shoals is such a gem! From the moment I walked in, the waitress and cook made me feel completely at home - they were both so friendly and welcoming. I ordered the breakfast haystacks (hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy, and two soft eggs) and it was absolutely delicious. Paired with a hot cup of tea, it hit the spot! The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, with locals enjoying each other's company - you can tell this is a place where relationships matter. I left with a full stomach and a smile on my face. Highly recommend Velma's if you're anywhere near Shoals!"

"Overall we had a good experience at this diner. Upon entry we stood waiting for a while and weren't greeted by the nearby waitress, until she eventually acknowledged us waiting, then letting us know that we could seat ourselves. She seemed to assume that we should've known to do so, but there were no noticable signs indicating to "seat yourself" like you'd typically see at establishments with this policy, so it was a little presumptuous to assume that new customers would know the policy. The waitress wasn't very chatty or bubbly, but she took our orders and checked on us a couple times so she did her job effectively enough. She wasn't rude, just not very warm or welcoming. Also a table who came in after us and ordered after us had their meals served before us, not sure why but that was odd. The seating area was a little unkempt and dirty, but otherwise it was a cozy atmosphere. The prices were great and the quality of our meals was beyond satisfactory. They only accepted cash or check, thankfully we happened to have checks on us at the time. We didn't see any noticeable signs outside the establishment indicating this payment policy either, so that's noteworthy. There was something posted inside about it though I believe, but I'm not 100% certain. A little outdated for the time, but not a huge issue. We really enjoyed our food - that's the big highlight! Whenever we're nearby again we might stop in again for their breakfast menu... Next time we'll know to seat ourselves and to bring cash. lol "

"This place is excellent!! They dont accept debit/credit cards but they do have an ATM inside! Cash & personal checks only. But its worth grabbing $30 from your stash & heading there to get plus size portions of phenomenal home cooked food"

"Food was fantastic. There was only one waitress and almost every table was seated, so she was very busy but did great. Some of the best B&G we've ever had!"

"The locals are lucky to have such a classic diner with wonderful help. Plenty of local flair. Food? It's a diner. If you like diner food, you'll like here. They're ham and beans are top notch. Cash or check only. They don't want your card."

"This is a great little diner. I was passing through on my way to the casino in french lick. We stopped, and got two meals for there, two meals to go and desert, all for under $35. It would have cost around $15 for two of us if we had just ate there. This is diner food, and good diner food. Don't expect a fancy restaurant, and the food and prices will win you over. Great place and this will be on my list of stops from now on. The deserts were delicious. The burger was good. It's not a gourmet burger, but it was $5!!!! The tenderloin was worth the $7. I was completely satisfied, and will be stopping back in."

"Live about a hour away and visited diner during the afternoon of 4 18 25. This is a quaint diner that reminds me of the ones from the late 50's early 60's were people used to meet just to enjoy good food and meet friends. Just a quiet little diner that served great food at a reasonable price. Had the beef Manhatten and green beans and it was one the best I have had in a long time. The portion was just right. The server was very friendly and engaging and this added to that good old fashioned hometown diner atmosphere. Need more places like this. Keep up the good work. Will make the trip again just to visit this diner."
